When it comes to selecting a home, community is key. A strong network of friends and neighbours is a defining factor between a house and a home.

Here at Countryside, we believe that all of our homeowners should love the place the live, and we often find that our buyers are already familiar with the local area. For this reason, it’s important to take a step back once in a while to rediscover your hometown and avoid missing out on all the wonderful characteristics your town has to offer.

To help you get reacquainted with your local area, we’ve pulled together these top tips:

1. Pay a visit to your local library.

If you haven’t already, get to know your local library. This is a great place to browse community bulletin boards, find local maps and even travel guides.

2. Be a tourist for the day.

Now that you’ve been introduced to your local library, why not check out some guidebooks for your city – acting like a tourist for the day will help you discover new activities right on your doorstep.

3. Browse your local community resources.

Most towns will boast community newspapers, websites and online forums – take advantage of these resources by looking for upcoming community events and adverts / reviews for local restaurants and bars.

4. Try new places.

Step out of your usual routine and try new places in your area. Book a table at that new restaurant or check out some different bars on your next night out with friends. You’d be surprised at how many places you find nearby that you didn’t even know existed.

5. Get Involved.

Most cities and towns have regular events in the centre, such as food and music festivals. Make an effort to attend these events and really get involved in your community – there’s plenty of fun to be had without breaking the bank!
