First time buyers in Standish are snapping up new discounted homes at Countryside’s Barrowcroft Green development, with over half of the 25 discounted plots sold in less than five months.

The homebuilder is working with Wigan Council to offer a helping hand onto the property ladder with a 27% discount on selected homes, through the council’s affordable homes scheme.

To apply for the discount, buyers must either live, work or have family connections within the Wigan Borough. Former members of the armed forces who are returning to the borough will also qualify under the council’s criteria.

Peter Vella, Regional Sales and Marketing Director at Countryside, commented: “Barrowcroft Green was the first development within the area to adopt the council’s new affordable housing initiative, which has been a welcome incentive for buyers who otherwise may have not been able to buy a property in the area.

“Barrowcroft Green is located in a highly desirable part of the borough and it’s great to see buyers to take advantage of this unique offer and providing security for their future.”

When purchasing a home using the discount, only a 5% deposit is required. This means that buyers would only need to secure a 68% mortgage on their new home, as the remaining 27% of the property’s value would be discounted through the council.

Once complete, Barrowcroft Green will comprise 150 luxury three, four and five bedroom homes.
